Concert in outer space

SATELLITE SYNTHESIZER is a pioneering Danish invention that does something no one else has done before: to create sound in outer space outside the earth’s atmosphere.

Satellites at an altitude of 36,000 km are placed in loop connections between each other until resonances occur. The silence in space slowly turns into standing waves determined by the gigantic distances between the satellites and receivers on Earth.

For the concert at Sound Art Lab, the Snöleoparden will be joined by participants in 89 Sound Art School, who will have the opportunity to play their music into space together with the satellites. The sound comes back after a journey and comes back to the stage changed. As a musical dialogue with outer space – a very special and intimate way to experience these artists.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The systems used are geo-stationary satellites for approx. 36,000 km altitude and low orbit systems for approx. 700 km’s altitude.
Several systems are connected simultaneously and run through a specially designed patching system.
The new tones are created by resonances between the signals’ journey in space – a feedback chain of over 200,000 km.
