Sound Art Meet-up #3

You are warmly invited to Sound Art Meet-up #3 — an online gathering with short artist presentations and time for conversation. This time with Nino Dava, Meta Golova (Lena Kilina and Carlos Issa), and Jody Servon.

Nino Dava is a Georgian, Berlin-based sound artist, field recorder and performer interested in how sound connects humans with non-human, with time or with new layers of understanding.

Nino Dava will speak about the condition of waiting, bus stops, liminal spaces, no places — how the waiting is designed for the human beings, what we are waiting for and how the perception changes when we wait. The presentation will focus on the latest sound installation and a little book called “Until the 7 sees, 7 springs and 7 skies, wait for me” which brought new questions of how sound and architecture communicate with the memory or perception of the past.

Meta Golova is an artist duo formed by Lena Kilina and Carlos Issa, based in São Paulo, Brazil.

In the audio-visual project “Evasive Space” for the Almanac for Struer Tracks “Kommunal Praksis”, Meta Golova proposed to explore how sound can reveal informal, temporary, and overlooked forms of public life. Developed from Lena’s PhD research of São Paulo’s Parque Minhocão and Shanghai Redtown, the work treats urban space not as a fixed background but as a contested environment that is constantly produced through movement, perception and collective presence.

Jody Servon is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator based in Western North Carolina whose practice centers on collaboration, storytelling, and socially engaged work.

Over the past decade, “Our Top 100: A Soundtrack of Our Memories” has gathered more than 50,000 contributed songs and memories through editions in communities across the United States. Jody Servon will share how the project has evolved as both a participatory artwork and a living archive of handwritten stories, music, and collective memory.

Jody Servon is especially interested in creative approaches to archiving, such as how sound, storytelling, and memory shape the ways an archive is accessed, activated, or reimagined.
The contribution to the Almanac drew from the archive, bringing together a curated selection of songs and memories centered on longing and belonging.
