Lytteaften: How to dismantle a piano?
Join us for an artist talk with Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard on Friday, March 13 at 3:00 PM at Sound Art Lab in Struer. The talk will focus on Løkkegaard’s work The Big Silent, a grand piano that has been dismantled and submerged in glass, permanently installed at Sound Art Lab.
After the talk, participants from 89 Sound Art School will present a series of artistic explorations influenced by Niels’ work.
Collecting and Archiving as World Building
How can we create other possible worlds through collecting and archiving?
What happens when something settles in the spine? Can it be dangerous? And can practices of collecting and archiving suggest how we, together, might soften preconceptions that have become fixed?
These are questions that Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard will explore in this artist talk, which takes its starting point in his own collecting practice and in his work The Big Silent (a grand piano that has been dismantled and submerged in glass). The Big Silent (softer tissue) is exhibited at Sound Art Lab.
On the same day, we celebrate the release of the book The Big Silent, published by Aftryk.
As part of the presentation, Løkkegaard will also contextualize his practice in relation to his artistic research project Multiplayer – Softenings and inquiries into matters of toxoplasmatic ectoplasm, which can be accessed here.
The event is part of the educational program connected to the work “Du er ikke alene” (“You Are Not Alone”), created by Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard. Based on the work Du er ikke alene, citizens and visitors are invited to experience Struer as a place where we listen – to each other, to the city, and to the incomprehensible. The educational program aims to explore how we can listen and connect in different ways.
The work ‘Du er ikke alene’ has been selected by Struer Kunstråd to mark Struer as the City of Sound. It is rooted in the idea of breaking isolation and opening listening toward the world.
Instead of controlling and isolating sound, the work invites us to let our surroundings in – and thereby experience that we never listen alone. We are connected to the city, to one another, and to the world.
The program is supported by:
Struer Lydens By
Statens Kunstfond
Augustinus Fonden
Ny Carlsbergfondet
The program takes place during March and May and unfolds through the following activities:
