Live Performance – Jena Jang

Jena Jang will perform a live sound performance using their DIY modular synth, linking it with some sound devices they built, and adding their signature extended vocal improvisation.

Jena Jang is a vocalist, experimental musician, and performing artist from South Korea, currently based in Prague, Czechia. They focus on power electronics, extended vocal improvisation, and high-pitched frequencies from their hand-made modular synth, which they are continually developing. Their vocal style draws inspiration from Buddhist chanting, yogic breathing practices, throat singing, and traditional Korean music such as Pansori, Samulnori, and Shamanic rituals. Jena’s performances often include headbanging, crawling, and repetitive movements, aiming to transform negative memories and traumas into positive energy.

Since August 2020, they have performed live improvisational music, collaborating with various artists and participating in festivals worldwide. Notable performances include a project with bela (KR/DE) and mvd0ae (MX/CZ) during a residency at MeetFactory in Prague, and supporting Gabber Modus Operandi (ID) and Prison Religion (US) at Shelter Tallinn Presents. They also performed with Udasi (FI) and Mia Zabelka (AT) at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz. Jena has appeared at festivals such as Druskomanija (LT), Biela Noc (SK), ARé Performing Art (AM), and Saund Festival 2024 in Suuresadama, Hiiumaa (EE).
